TaxBreak Founder and CEO Frank Brown Retires; Shannon Scott Appointed President and Chief Executive Officer
For Immediate Release
January 4, 2010
Gadsden, Alabama—TaxBreak, the leading expert in state and federal government tax credit processing, announces today that Founder and CEO Frank Brown has retired, passing the CEO position onto TaxBreak President, Shannon Scott.
Brown founded TaxBreak in 1998 while serving as a tax attorney in Alabama. His work in assisting his clients in taking advantage of federal tax incentives inspired him to form a company to help make the incentives more accessible to all business owners. Since founded 11 years ago, the company has grown into a healthy and vibrant business with more than 400 clients who make up about 75,000 business locations throughout the nation. Brown takes great pride in the company’s appearance on Inc. 500’s list of Fastest Growing Companies for two consecutive years and its ranking on the Inc. 5000 list for 2009. Aggressive plans for repeating Inc. 500 level growth and building stronger industry partnerships are key goals anticipated under Scott’s leadership.
“It is very rewarding to see a vision come to life and become a profitable business. I am grateful to the many people who have dedicated themselves and contributed throughout the years and especially for the clients who have trusted TaxBreak to serve them,” said Brown.
Since 2007, Brown has trusted Scott to manage day-to-day operations. Together, they have guided the creation and development of a company that is changing the way employment tax credits are managed. As President, Scott has streamlined operations, increased processing capacity with the development of proprietary software, built the company’s partner network and opened doors that have allowed the company to double in size every year since he joined the firm three years ago.
“We have experienced tremendous growth in the last three years as the business climate and government legislation have worked together in our favor. I have a very supportive and over-qualified staff of executives who are eager to continue the company’s rapid growth,” added Scott. “I am grateful for the opportunity to lead TaxBreak and look forward to much continued success.”
For now, Brown will remain chairman of TaxBreak and focus on operating The Business Incentives Group (tbigtax.com) and a new non-profit venture to help high-risk individuals find employment. He plans to stay active with the American Bar Association and the Alabama Bar Association.

Avionté Staffing Software Expands Service Offering With TaxBreak Partnership
Integration of TaxBreak’s tax Credit processing software with the Avionté Staffing Software system will allow end users to automatically qualify candidates for government incentives.
Gadsden, Alabama—Avionté, a provider of staffing industry technology solutions, and TaxBreak, the foremost expert and leading provider for Business Capital Recovery services, announce today an alliance to deliver TaxBreak’s tax credit processing services to staffing agencies through integration with Avionté’s front- and back-office staffing software. The integration will add a new level of service to Avionté’s already robust offerings and make it easier for staffing firms to prequalify applicants for government tax credits and incentives.
Avionté has seen a surge of new clients in 2009 as staffing firms look to vendors that can offer additional services as part of their application suites. Services such as assessments and background screening are becoming critical integrations clients expect from their technology provider. And as the providers experience success with these integrated services, they recognize that forming new alliances with tech-savvy companies can help differentiate their offering and make the software package as whole more appealing to the staffing firms. The newly formed alliance with TaxBreak takes Avionté one step further in providing a holistic solution to its clients.
TaxBreak welcomes the partnership as an excellent opportunity to make its services more accessible to the staffing industry. The integration with Avionté will allow candidates to answer qualification questions and provide key information to TaxBreak during the application process. Staffing firms will be able to tell immediately whether or not an applicant is eligible for such government incentives as the Work Opportunity Tax Credit, Empowerment Zone or Disaster Relief Credits, among thousands of others offered at the state and federal level. This allows recruiters to screen for eligibility before making an offer, thereby increasing their chances for credits.
“We are very optimistic that our alliance with Avionté will be a boon to its staffing clients who have the potential to greatly increase their cash flow by taking advantage of government tax credits and incentives,” said Shannon Scott, TaxBreak President. “We once helped a large staffing firm collect $6 million in tax credits and incentives that had been overlooked by a previous provider. While we realize this is more an exception than a rule, it definitely illustrates the financial benefits these firms stand to gain by using our service.”
“Each year staffing firms forfeit millions of dollars by not taking advantage of the federal and state tax credits available to them. So many of our staffing software clients have let these credits go unclaimed because they felt the process was too complex and time-consuming. We are excited about the ability to change this situation by bringing a seamless and simple integration that will truly affect the bottom line.” said John Long, CEO for Avionté.

Brad Hughes, President of The Hughes Agency, and another client of both TaxBreak and eEmpACT reiterates the claim by owner of Willstaff Worldwide and comments further on the efficiencies to be gained by the new partnership. “When we went with TaxBreak, they did an audit and found an additional $127,000 that another company didn’t,” he states. “The integration between TaxBreak and eEmpACT will make the process virtually painless.”

WOTC Filing Deadline Extended: Disconnected Youth and Unemployed Veterans
Reminder: October 17th is now the deadline to file for certification of Unemployed Veterans and Disconnected Youth hired after January 1, 2009 and before September 17, 2009
Companies who plan to take advantage of this tax credit will need to complete Form 8850: Pre-Screening Notice and Certification Request for the Work Opportunity Credit for each qualified individual hired January 1 and before September 17, 2009. Companies who hire individuals in these two categories are eligible for a maximum $2400 tax credit for each qualified new hire.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 signed in March 2009 expanded the definition of new hires who qualify for Work Opportunity Tax Credits to include unemployed veterans and disconnected youth. These two new categories of workers are defined in more detail below and the statutes are in place through 2010. Certification by the state workforce agency is required.
Unemployed Veterans. Any veteran that has been discharged or released from active duty in the Armed Forces at any time during the 5-year period ending on the hiring date, and has received unemployment compensation under State or Federal law for not less than 4 weeks during the 1-year period ending on the hiring date.

TaxBreak Announces Acquisition of TaxBreak Solutions
Purchase Solidifies TaxBreak’s Position as Largest Independent Tax Credit Processor
TaxBreak, the leading expert and outsourced processor of government tax credits, announced today it has acquired TaxBreak Solutions, an independently-run group of master sales agents. The acquisition and merger of the firms establishes TaxBreak as the nation’s largest independent tax credit processor serving more than 75,000 client locations, and expands the company’s sales presence.
TaxBreak’s acquisition of TaxBreak Solutions reaffirms its commitment to customer service and company growth by more closely aligning the agent team with the corporate entity. This will enable the agents to better service clients who reside in their territory and gives the agents direct access to company management. “In addition to growing our national presence, we believe the acquisition will allow us to provide better support to existing clients. With agents present in 46 states, TaxBreak has more widespread market coverage in case a client has an immediate need that requires a company representative to be onsite,” stated Shannon Scott, TaxBreak President.
TaxBreak Solutions has historically functioned as a recruiting firm assembling agent teams for a number of companies including TaxBreak. However, in recent months, the company’s core focus has shifted from recruiting new agents to leading and managing the large team of agents it had assembled for TaxBreak. Charles Thompson, formerly with TaxBreak Solutions, will join the TaxBreak team as Vice President of Channel Partnerships and is looking forward to renewing his focus on recruiting the best sales talent. “TaxBreak’s leadership team is dynamic and visionary, and their ability to lead and manage the sales team will allow the agents to be more productive. It will also give me the ability to increase the number of highly-talented agents in field,” said Thompson.
“TaxBreak Solutions has done an excellent job assembling a group of key individuals to represent TaxBreak,” added Scott. “With this buy, we gain not only a better relationship with the agents, but also a team of recruiters who know the qualities of effective sales agents. The ability to continue to recruit at this level is essential to our success as we continue to expand the company.”
The addition of TaxBreak Solutions’ sales force and client base establishes TaxBreak as the nation’s largest independent provider tax credit processing. The company’s more than 200 partners and 100 sales agents, in addition to its proprietary software, position the company for continued rapid growth. They expect double the number of agents in the field and expand its presence from 46 states to all 50 states by 2010.
